Drummer magazine contents page analysis

Drummer magazines contents page is filled with interesting images and text to keep the attention of the audience. For example the images on the page seem to gradually enlarge as they make their way down, the top two images start off small, the next one down is slightly larger, then the main image is very large and then the last two images decrease in size, this shows a pattern which could be used to entice the reader into spending time looking at the contents page, also this could relate to the importance of each article. On the topic of the images featured four out of the six images used all feature a drum kit or somebody playing the drums which keeps in line with the title of the magazine ‘Drummer’. The images used in the contents page may be used because they may all be the most exciting or interesting parts of the magazine which would help keep the attention of the reader, also the use of the images in both colour and black and white could be to show the difference in older and modern music and how the magazine includes both of these. The title of the magazine is reiterated in the contents page in the same font style which makes sure the reader knows what magazine they are reading. The text of the content page seems to also follow a pattern with the colours used, for example at the very top of the page in the left hand corner the title ‘contents’ is written in white while the background is orange which helps it stand off the page. Behind this is the issue number which is printed in black which also stands out from the page, also it tells the reader if the magazine is present or not. This white, black and orange colour scheme is repeated with the rest of the text leading down the page, the feature titles are all written in black with a white background which stands out, the page numbers are written in orange which also stands out. This particular colour scheme helps keep the contents page eye catching so that the reader’s attention is held. Just to the side of the list of feature articles is a caption that reads ‘exclusive’ this shows how rare or important this type of feature is, this makes the reader want to read on to find out what is happening, also the stamp style border this has stands out from the rest of the text used as it is in a completely different style to the rest of the pages text. In the bottom left hand corner there is a box with a plus sign next to it, the title of this is ‘Regulars’, the plus sign next to it insinuates that these features are extras and since this box is smaller than the actual feature list they are not as important as the rest of the list, this box also keeps in tone with the colour scheme of the rest of the page. The title ‘regulars’ shows that these certain things are featured in every issue, this could mean that they are popular and therefore are continuously featured or they may be necessary for the reader to read, either way this keeps up a sense of continuity in the magazine and they provide an easy read for the audience.
